Emma completed her Honours Bachelor of Social Work Degree through Lakehead University and is a Registered Social Worker with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW).
Emma began her career in counselling working with children, youth and adolescents at Ecole Elsie MacGill Public School with the Lakehead District School Board and Children’s Centre Thunder Bay. Previously, Emma worked for Our Kids Count where she predominantly facilitated walk-in / talk-in counselling in addition to providing at-risk students with mental health education and individual counselling. She has also worked with new mothers as she facilitated a postpartum support group.
Emma utilizes elements from a variety of therapies including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT) and focusing on the knowledge, lived experiences, and well-being of her clients with a humanistic, client-centered, and trauma-informed approach to care.
In addition to these therapies, Emma also incorporates mindfulness and grounding into her practice. She is passionate about creating a sense of security, safety, confidence, certainty, and trust in addition to creating a feeling of coziness and comfort and creating a sense of well-being and contentment within the therapeutic environment for her clients. Emma values each pillar of well-being and is passionate about empowering her clients.Emma has worked with children, youth, adolescents, and adults experiencing mental health issues including, but not limited to, anxiety, depression, stress, relationship issues, grief, addiction, trauma, and sexual assault / abuse.
