Kelly Mental Health is committed to training mental health professionals to be the best they can be.
As a teaching facility, our interns learn through observing sessions, completing intake interviews, coordinating client triage, co-facilitating sessions with senior clinicians, and leading sessions under supervision.
We offer a safe and supportive environment for students and new clinicians to gain as much experience as possible with the support of a team in their professional journeys.
Internships are a great way for new clinicians to develop competencies in their chosen field with access to robust supervision and consultation with experienced practitioners.
Internship Structure
We establish areas of growth at the outset of each internship through a series of questionnaires and consultations with the Clinical Supervisor, outlining focus areas to ensure a well-rounded training plan that is reviewed and recalibrated as necessary to ensure goals are met.
Primary Tasks and Responsibilities
Provide assessment, case management, and psychological treatment to adults, adolescents, and children utilizing evidence-based interventions such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Dialectical Behavior Therapy.
Complete clinical documentation for each material contact with clients, including session notes, progress reports, and treatment plans.
Coordinate with other healthcare providers involved in the client's care (e.g., primary care physician, nurse practitioner).
Complete outward referrals requiring professional advocacy (e.g., referrals for inpatient treatment, housing, psychiatric assistance, medication).
Engage in ongoing clinical training including 1:1 supervision with a senior staff member, group clinical consultations, cultural competency training, and evidence-based intervention training.

Supervisor-shadowed clinical sessions
Documentation audits
Client satisfaction surveys
Client feedback and self-reported outcomes
Monitoring client retention
Supervision meetings
Monthly case management reviews
Clinical Supervision
Our Clinical Supervisors are licensed clinicians with extensive experience providing trauma-focused treatment. To remain eligible to oversee interns and new clinicians, they have completed training on the theory and application of skills in Clinical Supervision, and engage in ongoing training, development, and supervision themselves as practitioners and supervisors.
Supervision is primarily provided in person at our main office and via online consultations. The frequency of scheduled supervision sessions varies based on the clinician's learning goals, educational requirements, and the level of complexity in their caseload.
Our Clinical Supervisors are recognized as approved clinical supervisors with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO).
