Ruby’s approach to counselling is all about empowerment; building on existing client strengths, encouraging healthy coping skills and helping clients navigate complex problems.
She completed her first undergraduate degree from Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia, majoring in Sociology and Social Anthropology. During her time in Halifax, she became invested in the social justice and student mental health movement, volunteering and working with various mental health groups on campus. Inspired by her own lived experiences and passion for mental health, Ruby moved to Thunder Bay in 2020, completing her Honours Bachelor of Social Work Degree at Lakehead University in 2021.
Ruby uses a client-centered and ecological systems approach to enhance client resiliency and help you navigate the world around you, as you experience it. Ruby actively works to meet clients where they are at, identifying presenting issues and helping clients find creative solutions. Ruby has experience working with clients who are learning to cope with trauma, navigating crisis situations, dealing with substance abuse and struggling with general activities of daily living. She is open, non-judgmental and approachable, creating a safe space for clients to share and explore.
