Cognitive Behavioural Therapy
Psychotherapy or Counselling is also known as "Talk Therapy." Our practitioners are trained and experienced with a variety of evidence-based techniques to treat mental health issues.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is the most commonly used form of Counselling or Psychotherapy. It works by addressing problematic thinking patterns such as self-defeating thoughts, blame, guilt, unfair expectations ("I should be doing this instead"), labelling, and catastrophizing. In sessions, the therapist assists the client by exploring their perspective on the issues, working on increasing insight, using a balanced, evidence-based approach to decision-making, and implementing behavioural changes to increase their quality of life.
Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) is similar to CBT, with emphasis on mood regulation skills for those who experience intense distress. Major components include Mindfulness training, Interpersonal Effectiveness, Distress Tolerance, and Emotional Regulation strategies. DBT techniques are often woven into CBT sessions depending on the client's presenting issues.
