Linda Kelly

CEO, Master of Social Work, Registered Social Worker
Picture
Trauma specialists always know there are complex, unique, and compelling stories behind every issue we face.

Trained in a variety of approaches such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), EMDR, Prolonged Exposure, Internal Family Systems (IFS) Parts Work, and Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT), Linda has spent her career working with clients throughout the life cycle. She helps people to understand the patterns of their lives, building upon their insight, and improving their sense of control over their experiences. She understands that to heal, all mental health challenges must be acknowledged, understood, and felt while engaging in more effective ways of coping when the old ways no longer serve us.

Linda focuses on making room for compassion and knowledge about how our perceptions, assumptions, and beliefs impact us.

Her certificate in Clinical Traumatology following completion of her Master of Social Work Degree has better informed her approach to working with individuals in high-stress careers such as First Responders, Medicine, Law Enforcement, and Governing.

With a keen interest in addressing disordered eating (e.g., binge eating, chronic over-eating, food addiction) in the context of trauma, Linda has also studied with Dr. Georgia Ede, MD on the use of Ketogenic Diets in Mental Health treatment, and Dr. Anna Federici for Dialectical Behaviour Therapy for Eating Disorder treatment (DBT-ED). She is a strong supporter of using nutrient-dense diets as an important strategy in regaining resilience and vitality.

As CEO of Kelly Mental Health, she strives to improve the wellbeing of individuals and families in our community by leading a team of trauma-focused mental health clinicians.

Question: What are some traits that you believe make a good therapist?

"Humility. To have made enough mistakes to understand the whys of what we, as human beings, do. Why we feel what we feel, and what motivates us to keep pushing forward no matter what.
Warmth. Being down to earth. Humour, because let's face it, sometimes life is bewildering and frustrating and insane, and laughter helps. It always helps.
I've always felt that to be a good therapist, you have to be genuine. You must be authentic and real if you expect the person in front of you to be real with you too.
It is when we level with one another that true change can happen."
