Riley Kennedy is an Indigenous Social Worker of mixed Haudenosaunee and European heritage and a proud member of Oneida Nation of the Thames. He is a Registered Social Worker with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers. Riley holds a Master of Social Work in Indigenous Trauma & Resiliency and a Bachelor of Arts in Community Development with a Minor in Indigenous Studies.
Throughout his career, he has worked in hospital, community mental health, and child welfare settings, with a strong focus on supporting Indigenous, Black, racialized, and 2SLGBTQIA+ individuals, families, and communities.
His practice is rooted in trauma-informed, culturally-responsive, and compassion-focused care. Riley draws on approaches such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), attachment-informed practice, Indigenous healing practices, and trauma-focused therapies, adapting each session to meet the unique goals, strengths, and values of the person he is working with.
Riley has particular experience supporting individuals navigating: substance use, neurodivergence, complex and intergenerational trauma, 2SLGBTQIA+ identities, gender-based violence, and men’s mental health.
Riley works collaboratively with clients, recognizing them as the experts in their own lives. His role is to walk alongside people as they build insight, develop practical tools, reconnect with identity and culture, and move toward a life that feels more balanced and meaningful. Outside of his practice, Riley enjoys dance, theatre, travelling, and caring for his two cats.
