Ruby’s approach to counselling is all about empowerment; building on existing client strengths, encouraging healthy coping skills and helping clients navigate complex problems.
Ruby completed her first Undergraduate Degree from Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia, majoring in Sociology and Social Anthropology. She also completed a Certificate in Disabilities Management - focusing on return to work planning, workplace mental injury prevention and workplace accommodations. During her time in Halifax, she became invested in the social justice and student mental health movement, volunteering and working with various mental health groups on campus. Inspired by her own lived experiences and passion for mental health, Ruby moved to Thunder Bay in 2020, completing her Honours Bachelor of Social Work Degree at Lakehead University in 2021.
Ruby uses a Client-Centred and Ecological Systems Approach to enhance client resiliency and help you navigate the world around you, as you experience it. Ruby actively works to meet clients where they are at, identifying presenting issues and helping clients find creative solutions. She recognizes that although she is the professional in sessions, that clients are the experts on themselves.
Ruby uses an eclectic blend of evidence-based therapeutic modalities such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), Emotions Focused Therapy, Existential/Humanistic Therapy, Narrative Therapy and Internal Family Systems Therapy. She has experience working with clients who are learning to cope with trauma, navigating crisis situations, experiencing grief, managing substance abuse issues and struggling with general activities of daily living. She has experience working in suicide prevention and intervention and helping clients cease self-harm behaviours.
Ruby is open, non-judgmental and approachable, creating a safe space for clients to share and explore.
