01
What it is
Avoidance makes sense after trauma. It keeps the pain at a distance. Over time, though, it can shrink your life and keep the fear alive. Prolonged Exposure works by carefully reversing that avoidance.
It is one of the specialized trauma protocols our clinicians are trained in, alongside EMDR, CBT and DBT.
02
What a session is like
There are two parts. In session, you revisit the trauma memory with your clinician at a pace you agree on, and talk through what comes up. Between sessions, you practise re-entering situations you have been avoiding, starting with the easier ones.
The structure is predictable on purpose. You always know what is coming next.
Avoidance keeps the pain at a distance, and it keeps the fear alive.
03
Is it right for me?
If avoiding reminders of what happened is costing you places, people or parts of your life, ask about Prolonged Exposure. Your clinician will help you decide between it and other trauma treatments.
